Kathleen Ramel (Katie) – Katie was elected to the Board in April, 2021 and elected Board Vice President in April 2021. Katie grew up in the Center community , attending Center Schools and her family has lived in South Kansas City for more than 20 years. Katie served as a reading, science, & math teacher at Center Middle School. While teaching, Katie ran the Middle School track program and served on the teachers’ union leadership team, Center Education Association (CEA). During her time as a middle school teacher, she was nominated as a teacher of the year and elected to represent Center Schools at the National Teachers Association representative assembly in Washington D.C. Prior to her teaching career, Katie worked as a Paramedic gaining experience in public safety, system management, and patient care. Her background in medical science has shaped how she views educating children. “I take a whole child perspective. Mental, physical, & emotional needs must be met in order to facilitate the traditional learning of reading, writing & arithmetic.” She holds an Associate in Applied Science: EMT-P from Metropolitan Community College. Katie also holds a Bachelor of Arts: Middle School Education from the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC) where she was part of the Delta team, which focused on social justice within the School of Education.
Katie is now a homemaker with two future Yellowjackets and is excited to serve the Center community in a new capacity.
