Curriculum Overview

The prescribed course of study in the elementary schools of Center School District is designed to provide those experiences, skills, and sources of information that will lead to the fullest mental, physical, social and aesthetic development of each student.


Reading materials and instruction are provided that emphasize the development of word attach skills and reading comprehension. A wide variety of materials are available to develop individual reading needs and interests. The program also stresses and develops specific reading skills for other subject matter areas: math, science, social science, etc.


Handwriting instruction begins with the knowledge of capital and small letters being developed at the kindergarten level. Beginning skills of letter formation are also started in kindergarten. Skills of manuscript writing are developed through grade two. Beginning in grade three, students are instructed in the use of cursive writing. Throughout the program, legibility of writing is emphasized.
