Q. What defines guardianship?
A. The custody of a child is presumed to be held by the child’s parents unless a court order states otherwise. Even in divorce situations, it is presumed that both parents will have joint legal custody of the child. That is, they will share equally in all important decisions such as medical and educational. If one parent informs the school district that the other parent has been denied custody or visitation, that parent must provide a copy of the court document as proof.

Q. What is the deadline for completing the Online registration process to ensure my child will start school on the first day of school?
A. All Online registration needs to be completed by August 14th by 4 p.m for returning Center families. Bus transportation will not be guaranteed if returning families wait until August 14th.
New families need to complete online rgistration needs by August 12th.

Q: I do not know my parent portal account information. How do I enroll my child?
A: Please click and follow directions for “forgot password” or “forgot username”, if you are still having trouble please call 816-349-3306.

Q. My children have been attending Center School District, how do I add a new student (incoming kindergarten students, sibling/step child that has not attended the district before) to the online registration?
A: Go to the returning student tab, fill out all of the information for your current students and then click add a new student to enroll your child that has not attended the district before.

Q: I have completed the online registration, so is my child ready to start on the first day of school?
A: No, online registration does not complete the registration process. After your application has been submitted, an email will be sent advising if your application is approved or if more information is needed.

Q: Do I have to verify my residency each year for my returning student?
A: Yes, Residency must be verified every year for each student in the district.

Q: Will Center School District accept power of attorney for guardianship?
A: No, Center will not accept power of attorney. You must have legal guardianship over the student to enroll.

Q: I am the step parent of the child, can I verify residency and complete the online registration for the student?
A: No, Center School District requires that the person completing the online registration and verifying residency of the child be either the parent (on the birth certificate) or legal guardian.

Q. I have a question regarding my child’s bus status?
A. STA bus information can be located in your parent portal account under the transportation tab. Please note this could take up to 72 hours.

Q: How do I verify my residency if I live with some else within the district and I have no bills in my name?
A: If you are not able to secure residency within the district and reside with someone else within the district, please print and complete both multi-family affidavits located on the Center School District website. These must be notarized prior to making an appointment at Central Office to verify residency and meet with a social worker. A home visit is required for all multi-family applicants. Please note if you have a multi-family situation, this process will take considerably longer.

Q: How do I get a legal copy of my child's birth certificate?
A. To obtain a birth certificate, contact the state in which the student was born. In Missouri, contact Jackson County Health Department at (816) 881-4424.

Q: Where can I fill out the free and reduced lunch form?
A: All families that attend Boone, Red Bridge, Center Middle School and Center High School will need to log into the parent portal and fill out the free and reduced lunch form for the 24-25 school year.

Q: How do I know if I have completed the online registration process?
A: An email will be sent from our registration department advising if your application has been approved or if more information is required. This process will be completed within 48 hours.

Q: How do I know if I reside within the Center School District boundaries?
A: Click here to view a map with district and elementary school boundaries.

Q: How can my child transfer to a different elementary school in the district?
A: If you would like a transfer within the district you can request that on the registration tab under transfers.
