Beginning this school year, all Center 58 schools will be cell phone free during the school day. This means that from the first bell to the last, during classes, passing periods, and lunch, student phones/personal devices must be kept out of sight.

This change is one of the provisions included in Missouri Senate Bill 68, which now requires all Missouri schools to limit student use of personal electronic communication devices during the school day.

What this means for your student:

Elementary Students:
Students are expected to leave personal electronic devices at home unless there is a documented need. This aligns with current practices already in place.

Secondary Students (Middle and High School):
Devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, and earbuds/headphones must be powered off and stored out of sight throughout the day, including in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and other shared areas.

For all students, personal device use may be permitted only if required by an active IEP or 504 Plan for instructional, medical, or behavioral support. Additional exceptions may allow device use in emergencies or for authorized educational purposes.

We are committed to implementing this policy in a way that supports student learning, encourages academic success, and reflects our focus on restorative practices.

Thank you for being part of our commitment to cell phone free schools. We look forward to welcoming students back on Monday, August 18.
