Center High School varsity volleyball celebrated its first conference match win of the season last Thursday night, closing out the regular season on a high note. Now, the Yellowjackets are preparing for district competition. Their first game is Tuesday, October 20, at 6 pm against Southeast at CHS.
“This team has a great shot at reaching the championship game and continuing our season into November,” said Head Coach Megan Couch.
The varsity team is led by three seniors, Margot VanRiette, Kimberly DeLeon-Hall, and Zah'Kryia Clinton, who have played together since middle school. In addition to being strong leaders on the court, they are dedicated student-athletes. Two of the seniors have received offers to play volleyball in college.
“This is such a special team. Senior leadership is incredible. They are great leaders, and that has trickled down,” Couch said.
Couch has coached varsity volleyball for 16 years and has also taught at Center Middle School for 16 years. Assistant coaches are CHS Finance Secretary Heather Knute and CHS parents Sharon Wiederanders and Christian Hall.
