Center High School Debate team celebrated a wonderful accomplishment today - Cumulative Sweepstakes winner for the KC Parliamentary Debate League! Congrats to all team members and Head Coach Kamela Bates.




Had a great night recognizing CHS student-athletes, past & present, at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 27th. Current athletes signed letters of intent for college and alumni were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Lots more photos to come!!


The Center School District is pleased to announce that Mrs. Christy Cozad has been hired as the new Principal at Center Elementary School effective July 1, 2024. Mrs. Cozad has been a proud public educator in the Raytown Quality School District for the past 18 years and an assistant principal for the past three. She is excited to join the Center school community.
Growing up in an Air Force family Mrs. Cozad attended many elementary schools herself. Since her father's retirement, she has become a committed Kansas Citian. She graduated high school from St.Teresa’s Academy, and attended Kansas University and William Jewell College for her teaching certificate. Mrs. Cozad has a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Baker University and her administrator’s certificate from the University of Central Missouri.
Mrs. Cozad is passionate about supporting staff, students, and families to ensure a positive educational experience for all. She believes all students can achieve at high levels and is committed to working with a learning community to make it happen. Mrs. Cozad believes wholeheartedly that every day should include a little fun and a lot of hard work.
Dr. Dawn Smith, Assistant Superintendent for Talent Recruitment and Retention, said, "It brings me great pleasure to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to Principal Cozad as she joins our Center School district team. With her experience, dedication to education, and passion for serving all students, Principal Cozad is sure to make a significant and positive impact at Center Elementary School."

Last night the Center School District honored staff members who are retiring at the end of this school year. It was a wonderful evening of sharing stories, visiting with friends and families, and most of all thanking these VERY dedicated people who have devoted so much time and effort to support the kids in our community.
Thanks for all you have done and best wishes in your retirement!!

The 2024 Center Athletic Hall of Fame Induction is this Saturday, April 27th! The event will start at 6pm at Center High School (8715 Holmes Rd). We'll have pizza and snacks to enjoy starting at 6pm in the front lobby, where you can visit with friends old & new. School tours will be led by our Student Government Assocation starting around 6pm.
The induction program will begin in the auditorium at 7pm and will feature College Letter of Intent signings prior to the induction itself. Dress is casual. If you have guests who have not registered, please feel free to bring them along. You don't need to show your tickets, just show up and enjoy the evening celebrating some amazing student-athletes and their accomplishments!

As a result of Sam Cook's resignation, there is an opening on the Center Board of Education. The Board is accepting applications from qualified patrons to fill the seat until the next regular Board election (April 2025). At that time, the public will elect a candidate for a one-year term through April 2026 to complete the unexpired term.
Interested individuals need to file a request with Board Secretary, Stephanie Archie (sarchie@center.k12.mo.us or 816-349-3310), no later than 4:30pm on May 6th.

The Kansas City Police Department Helicopter unit will be visiting Center High School today (Tuesday) around midday. They are NOT here for any emergency, but to visit with the students in the First Responder class taught by Ms. Roxanne Glover. The annual Kindergarten Round-Up will be on May 9th from 5:30 - 6:30pm at all elementary schools in the Center School District. Congratulations to our CHS debate team who were honored today at the KC Parliamentary Debate City Championship with First Place Year-long Sweepstakes and Evan Bunch as the First Place Novice Speaker. Then on April 29, Rahman Franklin will receive the First Place Speaker for the Year from Debate Kansas City. We are so proud of our debaters who always show it’s a great day to be a Yellowjacket!

The 15th Annual International APBS conference was held in Chicago over Spring Break. CHS submitted their “CHS has P.O.W.E.R” video to the PBIS Film Festival at the conference and received 3rd place in the Instruction category for Intermediate/High School.
