Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on winning the Super Bowl AGAIN! What a great accomplishment for the team and Kansas City! Here's the schedule for the week for the Center School District: Monday - School will be held AS SCHEDULED. We know everyone is excited, but it is really important that we have excellent attendance and focus as we get back to the business of unlocking potential and igniting minds! Tuesday - School will be held as scheduled. Wednesday - PARADE DAY!! Center Schools will be CLOSED for all staff and students to celebrate with our Chiefs and our community. We are using our LAST snow day for this event. Celebrate enthusiastically, but safely so that on -- Thursday - we are back in school and learning! Friday - No School for students as this is a Professional Development day for staff. Special note - the MRVC Choir Event on Wednesday evening WILL take place as scheduled. Also, remember that Monday, February 19th is the President's Day holiday and we will have no school that day.

Lacy Hubbard, a paraprofessional at the Yellowjacket Early Learning Center (YELC), is the January Hive Society Employee of the Month for the Center School District. She exemplifies the Core Value of Lifetime, community and family centric relationships. Lacy has prioritized the wellness and mental health of our whole YELC community. Last year, Lacy established a YELC Yoga club, and she leads yoga at our school every Wednesday afternoon at the end of our workday. This year Lacy has initiated a 'Staying Hydrated' YELC Water Bottle challenge and is currently corralling YELC staff to attend CSD Yoga Tuesdays. Lacy has also taken on the leadership of YELC's Culture Committee. In this capacity, Lacy works collaboratively with colleagues to lift our YELC community. Lacy often states that we need to 'refill our cups' so that we can care for the needs of our littles at YELC to ensure their learning and growth. Lacy often asks me, "Mary, I hope you are taking some time for yourself." Lacy is truly a caring, collaborative staff member. Thank you for your work, Lacy, and congratulations on winning this award!

Center celebrated District Night at the High School basketball game on Wednesday evening. In addition to two girls and two boys basketball games, the All-District pep band (CHS & CMS) performed during both games. The All-District Cheerleading team (CHS, CMS, and the “mini” cheerleaders from all four elementary schools) performed at halftime of the boys game. Of course, lots of family members, alumni, and community members came to watch. The positive energy in the building was tangible. Click below to see (and listen to) a video of the combined bands. https://youtu.be/Ao5Y9La2mxo

The State of Missouri will celebrate reading on the annual Read-In Day on Friday, March 8 th. Here's how it works. Each of our elementary classes have signed up to have readers at specified times during the day on March 8th. We ask parents, community members, and Center staff to sign up to read. At the specified times, readers will go to the classrooms and read a book aloud for the class. We have created a google form for families, community members and staff to sign up to read to a classroom. Once all the slots are filled for a grade level at a particular school, they will no longer show up on the list. This is open for ANY community member to sign up, so please share with friends and family. We want to have a reader for every class in the district! Click below to sign up. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdM_9wx9oaHKOwN5iqKYQqyqYl1eMJgBY2zK9i_Tq4NrnPjkg/viewform
