CHS Golf continues to attract new students . The Center High School golf team continues to grow. The students are learning new skills and learning to love the game. The 21-22 High School team was comprised of four scholars.
• Giovanni Giangrosso
• Cameron Hacker
• Sydney Pendelton-Mitchem
• Zack Westring
Sydney Pendelton-Mitchem shared a highlight of the season was having the chance to work with PGA professional Tiana Jones. Jones is the seventh African American woman to become a PGA professional. For Sydney, working with Jones was inspiring. “Getting the opportunity to learn and play alongside another African American female who is a golf professional was an experience that I can't explain in words. That was the first time that I had ever played with another African American Female and to have that opportunity was something I will always treasure,” said Pendelton-Mitchem.
Sydney Pendelton-Mitchem was the only student of color on the team and she also shared that there is a need for more inclusiveness and understanding on the student competition level. “This year golf was filled with a lot of fun, but it also came with a lot of obstacles. One thing I learned is that the three things that were working for me, were also the three things that unfortunately worked against me as well. Being African American, a female, and playing up against all-boys was challenging, I got laughed at and made fun of, but it taught me that there was an intimidation factor. I learned a lot and look forward to growing in the game of golf and playing for Center High School again next year,” said Pendelton-Mitchem.
Cameron Hacker, our only Golf Districts qualifier, missed making it to State this year by only two strokes.

• Highly Qualified, Diverse Staff
• Diversity in Our Schools and Community
The Hive Society, a staff collaboration, designed to promote a positive and vibrant work environment for CSD staff, recognizes a monthly District winner during the school year.
Center Academy for Sucess' Teacher and Basketball Coach LeDale Wooten earned April’s Employee of the Month title with a focus on High Expectations for Student Success.
The nomination reads:
Coach sets the highest expectations for student success – in the classroom and on the court. His players and students “win with class and lose with dignity.” He gives positive, specific feedback, consistently. He teaches our kids to not only accept other's differences, but also to embrace and celebrate their own differences.
Wooten has said, "Embrace your differences. Don't lose that. That is something that makes you unique- not everyone is like that."
Congratulations Coach Wooten.
